Task Completed

All 14 are completed.  I contacted the DHS shelter today, and was sew excited when the woman answered the phone and knew exactly what I was speaking about when I said "pillowcase tops or nightgowns"!  They definitely can use them - she asked what time I would be there because she would have someone meet me at the back door!  It will be Friday before I can deliver the tops.  I will get the last 2 pics posted and also give you all the info on the shelter.

Twelve of Fourteen

Here are 12 of the 14 that are completed. Some need to be pressed, some pics are repeats.   The colors are of a bit off in some of the pics - (you will notice a blue tint to  - I have now learned that it is 'improper lighting')  After I take pics of the last two,  I will combine some of the previous posts showing the close up of the trim, flower, etc.
Sew for now:

A few more pics

Here are a few more pic - still have more to do but will be attending the Tulsa Swap O Rama Rama so it will be Sun or Mon.  Not for sure on my total count, but I do have to STOP!  I hit the thrift store again on Wed - vowing to NOT buy anymore pillowcases - hmmmmmm - I think I ended up with 5 more.  That has to be it because I only have a few days left to complete them.  I have "fiddled around" trying to get some pics, but I am really having trouble with my camera - sew   - I just stacked them up and started taking pics.  Will caption and details later.  You can see I used the rolled edge on some to the armholes - not quite a heavy at the bias tape.  Enjoy!

Once again

I tried to take some pics with the webcam - but the color is way off.  Here are a couple of shots.  Tomorrow I will just take a pic of each one and that will be that!  Had a busy day today - did not get any sewing done.  The best laid plans, right?  I guess I better put a new camera on my bday list - to go along with the IPad and the Triumph 650 - ROFL!!!!!
Almost cut my hair today, but the words to the song came to mind - "Almost cut my hair"  sew I didn't!  I do think it is time for a new do.  Better get it done before I go to Texas!
Until tomorrow - Happy sewing to you, until we meet again!

A Total of Ten

I now have a total of ten completed.  I have decided to just call them nightgowns! I know............
I tried to take pictures the other day, but I am having some trouble with the settings on my camera and no - I do not know where the book is.  Two weeks ago I could have found it......... I will try to get them posted in the next day or two ok?  This last week was one crazy week - but I did locate a few pieces of fabric that will work for the boys shorts (which will be next weeks project).  I have some of the drawstring elastic and I think I will use that.  Has anyone else tried it?  I will do a little research on it, but it seams the way to go - will give more room for adjustment.  Any suggestions?

One other thought - I keep forgetting about the web cam - I can take pics with it.  Ok - another project - just what I need.  Should be simple, right?  We shall see.

Sewing is truly mending my soul.

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures

Here are a few pics of the edges and trims.

Six Completed

We have just returned from our Family Reunion - which was great!! Glad we were able to spend a weekend with all our family.  Back to work today.  I have six - (yes 6 ) pillowcase tops completed.  Feels great to have them completed and ready to go.  How about you?

I think the next project will be some shorts for the boys - what do you think?  Probably with elastic/drawstring for the waist and a patch pocket on the back?  Check your stash and see what you have for "boy" stuff - I know must of us sew for the girls but I am sure I can find some boy colors.  I will probably check out the thrift store on Wed for some shirts to match the shorts.  (I know we are suppose to just be using what we have - but I know I do not have stuff for boys shirts.)

Three completed

I completed three yesterday.  I used decorative stitches to attach the bias tapes and added a bow to one.  I will add a bow or something to the other two before I mail them.  Actually took 1.5 hrs for each - not too bad.  Remember, you can clean finish the arm area and make a casing at the top if you don't have a stash of tape or trims.  I had a set of the striped pillowcase so I made one of the tops shorter.  I cut 5" of the top (thinking big and little sisters).  The 5" could be used to bind the armholes, or to add a pocket or two.

Hope this inspires you.  I will take pics of each one later in the week.  I have three more pillowcases in my possesion as of now :)

Pillowcase top/dress

We will be using the pattern posted on Sewing With Nancy's website.  It is located in the "Creative Kindness" section.  If you cannot download the pattern, please let me know.

Here is a pic of a completed one -  I will post more tomorrow.  This one will be used as a nightgown for a small girl.  Yes, it is folded.  I promise I will post more detailed pics over the weekend.

Happy Sewing!

June 1 - Another pillowcase challenge

June 1 already - where does all the time go?  Our first project is the Pillowcase top or dress.  These are sew quick to make I am sure you can make two a day - how is that for a challenge?  One of our thrift stores has Senior Day on Wed - all clothing is half price - the store has a few 99 cent days but it excludes current color tags (they always have two "current colors"). I re purpose a lot of clothes into dress up clothing for the little ones in the family - so I was on the hunt today - only found a couple of items for the dress up but I lucked out - they were in the process of marking down a lot of sheets, pillowcases, etc!  Found pillow cases for 45cents each!  Nice cotton pillowcases!  What a find!  As I listen to the news each night, I keep asking myself - what can I do to help?  One story that keeps weighing on me is a father, looking thru the rubble, telling the reporter he was looking for some of his children's clothes - they had nothing to wear! Sew - the pillowcase tops came to mind.  They can be worn as tops, dresses or nightgowns, they are quick to make and I have plenty of ribbons, tapes, trims, etc in my stash that can be used to complete the item.

My challenge to you is TWO pillowcase tops each!  One day of sewing - ok - maybe a couple of evenings - but that really all the time you will need.  I will let you know in a couple of days who to mail them to.

My cases are in the wash right now - pics will follow later this eve.  Email me if you have any questions or need a pattern.
